Directions to Orakei Basin

The Orakei Yacht Club sails at the Orakei Basin, a weir controlled salt water recreational basin, in Orakei, Auckland.

The Basin is nearly always full, except when being flushed, which takes place every two weeks, out Sunday evening, back full Tuesday.
(It can also be emptied after heavy rain, when it is filled on the next tide).

From the City . . .

To find us from the City drive along the water front , Tamaki Drive, to the East.

Just after the small bridge turn right into Ngapipi Road, (Just after the OBC motor boat marina and a set of quaint boat sheds also on the right).

Follow Ngapipi Road for a about a kilometer until a small round about.

Turn right and cross the bridge, into Orakei Road. About 200 meters from the bridge turn left into the entrance to the Orakei Basin. (This is be clearly sign posted).

The access road is a narrow road, so watch out for on coming vehicles.

Proceed down the road, past the Sea Scout Hall, and you will come to a car park.

OYC will usually be sailing immediately to the left, before the boat ramp, however, depending on the wind direction we may be at the far end of the car park. AND on occassions we will be sailing on the Southern side of the Basin at the far end of the grassed area past the car park.

From the South . . . .

If you are coming from the South . . . take the Wharf Exit . . .and just get to Tamaki Drive and then to Ngapipi Road as described above.

(Any other instruction will take another page to describe . . . ).
